Default Ceramic coating headers.

How much heat does ceramic coating eliminate ? Or better yet how much more heat will stainless steel headers produce than stock manifolds? Looking at Lg streets or Dynatechs not sure if its a waste of $275 to coat them.

I bought a set of Texas Speed and Performance headers. They are ceramic coated headers. I had a pair of longtubes prior...i think they were Jett hot headers..also ceramic coated headers. Both looked and performed great. My tuner told me to look for headers that are coated inside and outside of the headers. He told me that headers coated on the outside surface only tend to peel the coating in time. Also told me that the coating on the inside surface also helps to smooth the exhaust flow. Dont know if he is just super **** or giving me a line of BS, but I have had both (coated inside and out and coated just outside) and the performance is just about the same. Although what he told me about the coating turned out to be somewhat true. After two years with the headers that were coated on the outside only..they did look like they were starting to peel and crack..mainly on the radius of the tubes. I dont know if this is because they were not coated inside or it was due to poor coating process. Now I do know for a fact that the coating does dissipate heat just slightly more then uncoated headers. After getting the motor to running temperatures, we hit it with a laser temperature gauge and did notice only slight differences in temperature. The coated headers were cooler than the uncoated headers. anyways, I just think you might be better off spending that money on some other mod instead.

Default coatings

Some where in the last couple of days some one was running s special on Jet-Hot coating of headers. $99 instead of $250. Run a search. Other alternative is to buy a set of Jet-Hots' long tubes-less than $650 to your door, they are ceramis-nickel coated inside and out, and you don't need 02 sensor extensions.

Stainless steel retains heat much better than mild steel. SS also never rusts, nor will it chip, since there's no coating. The purpose of coating headers, is to help the first of these problems. Coated mild steel headers will eventually chip/flake, and then rust. If you get SS in the first place.... I think you can see where I'm going with this.

I paid around $525, but I had the whole system ceramic coated inside and a double coating on the outside. These are Dynamaxx headers, which are Stainless Steel. S.ST. runs hotter than mild steel since it doesn't disipate the heat very fast. I mainly did it to protect everything next to the headers. Also any heat I can reduce under the hood, also helps the supercharger and engine run cooler.....IMO.

Default headers

tbyrne is the vendor with the sale on coating. SS is okay if you want t the rust look when they patina in a few months, SS also expands and contracts a lot more than steel(ask anyone who has to weld it) causing more cracks in the long run.

I had my LG's coated by Jet-Hot over a year ago. The reason I did it was because of the patina that forms on stainless as mentioned before. I often show the car and it looks much better with the coating. It is holding up extremely well.

If you do get the coating be selective, not all coatings are the same. For example, Jet-Hot has a patent on their process that precludes anyone else from using it.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll use Jet-Hot
