You hit the nail right on its flat little head, with that one!

My H/C 2.73 geared '04 coupe, "sitting still" on the dyno, went 186 mph @ 6400 rpm in 3rd gear.

Never happen on the open highway, though.....not with me driving, at least.

I seriously doubt the drag-co:efficient of a FRC C5 would allow it to do 190...especially running less than 400 ponies at the wheels.

I'm with those who called

most 2001 and later superbikes now go with a European gentlemans agreement of 300 kph (186 mph) speedlimiter.

Default top end speed

I was a math major or relly an Engineering which required alot of math. Therefore I believe it whud take alot more HP,but Im not doin the math.Maybe he meant to say it indicated that speed.I can say the same thing with mine.It indicated 165 & it didnt take long to get there & unlike one writer, mine was stable as a rock. But I also like one am not going to do that anytime soon either.I think me & my blond headed brother my have been the inspiration for the Dukes of Hazzard,so I have been charged with everyting under the sun.Can you imagine what a ticket whud run for that kind of spd.Directly to jail & start paying. Getting back to spd.,when I was draggin a new 64(365hp)cp.,it whud indicate alot more than what the tower whud give me.The car was tot.stk.& seams like it was 10 or 15 mph off. They usually make them ind.close on the legal numbers, then anyting more they are off quite a bit esp.in the twight zone...

Well you guys can call BS all you want but I lived in Germany with my vette for 3yrs and I took mine to a indicated 186 mph once. 175-176 mph more times than I can remember. Check my sig for mods. Like I said I never had GPS verification but unless my speedo is way off I'd say it's possible(in a coupe). On a side note the stability difference between 170 and 185 is alot. Anything close to 185mph in a FRC body style is down right white knuckle. I also can verify that the difference in wheel/Tire weight makes alot of difference in top speed. I ran with Magnesium wheels and EMT's most of the time in Germany but later switched to my "big street" CCW wheel which reduced my top speed/acceleration.

I agree, but a coupe with the better aerodynamics could IHMO.

So what speed was the HUD reading at this time?

As for stability I wouldn't know at any speed above 150. Both my 97 and my 03Z were perfectly stable at those kinds of speeds on the race track. People ask me about it all the time and I just say it was stable as driving on the highway at the speed limit.
