Gunk on driver side window from inside door panel?
Hi folks,
I have a recurring problem - every once in a while, I get a bit of a 1" line part way up my driver side window in my C5 coupe. It seems to be coming from inside the door panel, and then appears when I roll the window up. Terrible stuff to get off, it smears and is very sticky - I have to use 'Ooops' to dissolve it. The car is out of warranty (it's a 2001) - is this a known problem, and what could be causing it?
Cheers
Jason
mine did this also. it was from the wires loom that came loose from an earlier service inside the door. the large wire loom is wraped with black tape that scrubs against the glass and smears on the window. it was the glue that caused it to be such a pain to get off the glass. if you take the panel off you will see real quick what wire loom is loose and how to puit it back on the inside door frame. it needs to be fixed or it may eventually cause an electrical short. also it can get stuck on the lower glass frame and rip loose all together.
the dlr did it for me. i had a driver door computer go bad and while they had it apart i asked the tech to tie the wire up to the inner door so it would not rub any more. does not look too difficult to do though. be carefull with the door panel clips and should not be bad. the plastic cover behind the inner door handle/pull always seems to break. but its cheap at the parts counter. just a few dollars and snaps back on easily.
