Reverse feels like gears are stripped
I had the same issue with my 98. I lived with it for 1 1/2 years and then it got totaled so I never got into the transmission. I would just put a bit of force on the shift and held it in gear when going in reverse. There is an adjustment that sometimes helps. You will need to pull center console out and get to the bottom of the shifter. Do some searches on this forum, or PM me I will look it up at home tonight. This did not help me.
Every other correction the transmission would need to get pulled. Some say you can get to the reverse without pulling, but it looks tricky. Chances are its is a syncro, a bent shift fork or a bushing (?). Labor to pull trans and repair will be more than 3/4 of the cost, unless you do it yourself.
Good Luck
