Problem with key fob on '98
My fob started losing it's 'memory'. I re-synched it and it seemed okay briefly. After I walked away from the car and returned, it would not function. I could re-synch it, but had the same result. I changed the battery, thinking the fob battery was low. Re-synced, but same result. Also notable, the horn beeps twice upon locking after they re-synch before walking away. Any thoughts. I have two other fobs that have never been trained. Looks like I will need to get out the manual and get to the dealer for programming (they are not the ones that came with the car), only the failing one is original. Thanks for any help. Zuti
Ok I dont know how long you have had your car but I have gone through at least 5 remotes! Your is on its way out and getting another '98 key fob will most likely have the same problems later on....
I switched over to a '00 key fob which is not only cheaper but I have not had any problems with it in over 2 years.
The only difference is that it doest have the auto lock/unlock function, you know when you set the fob to unlock when you get close to the car without touching it and it locks when you walk away.
I never used that function any way so I never missed it....
I got an '00 FOB on EBAY for like $25.00 but that was a cople of years ago, its waaaaaay cheaper than a '98 FOB
I'm pretty sure that the 97-99 key fobs and RFA systems are the same, so I should be able to get a 2000 fob to work for my '97 as it did with your '98 right?
