Default C6 Shifter question

I have recently installed the C6Z06 shifter in my C5 and was wondering to those who have done the same:

Have you found that the left to right motion in the shifter feels loose and awkward?

I have gone back and checked all of the bolts were nice and tight, but there seems to be a wide range of motion in the left to right movement that just feels awkward compared to the stock C5 shifter. Am I missing something?

Any and all comments welcomed!

Did you re-install the centering pin?

Pic of it (thanks Patches) :

On the left C5 shifter, it's the pin you can barely make out on the far left.

If you re-install the center pin the shifter wouldn't move at all.

I had a similar problem with my installation. The centering pin needs to be locked down when the shifter is installed. It insures the proper location of the base plate in relation to the rod and transmission. Make sure the bolt on the rod and shifter connection is installed per the indexes and tight. Then tighten the shifter plate bolts down evenly. Back out the centering pin and it should shift very smoothly. Enjoy.

I dont know what you guys are talking about...I just swapped the entire shifter in!

Seems OK, I think its worlds better then the stock shifter.

Dixie, the bolt that secures the clamp to the shift rod is not tight enough. That's the only way to induce left-to-right slop. The slot in the clamp should be barely open, maybe a millimeter at most. With the shifter in neutral, re-install the neutral pin and loosen all three bolts a little. Tighten the shift rod clamp bolt first. Make sure that the bolt is aligned with the groove in the shift rod. Then tighten the two frame mount bolts. Check for side play before reassembling the cockpit.

It IS the stock shifter - with a shorter bent shaft.
