Default At work need oil information

I am at work and not near my owners manual and this will be 1st oil change. How many quarts of Mobil 1 do I need and what is the recommended weight? TIA

2001 Coupe

Stealorship wants 10 bucks a qt. for the oil. I figure I'll go buy it at the local auto store at lunch and take it with me when it goes in for the oilchange.

6.5 quarts of Mobil 1... Some folks can get 7 quarts in there with a new filter, in any case it will not hurt to put the full 7 quarts in there.

Good luck... GUSTO

you will need to buy 7 qts. the capacity of the ls1 is by spec, supposed to be 6.5 qts, but some take up to 7 qts. mine takes 6.75 to get to the dipsticks full mark (w/ new filter). the owners manual recommends 5w30, but some people use 10w30. the 5w will pump slightly faster when cold, other than that, it really doesn't matter. might as well pick up a mobil 1 filter (#107) as well...

Buy the regular Mobil 1 5W30.
The extended does not meet GM4718M.
Check to makes sure the oil you buy meets this spec.

others manufacturers who have products to meet this spec include.
Amsoil, Royal Purple, Quaker State, Pennzoil Platinum.

Many buy the AC/Delco filter UPF 44. Other popular filters are K&N, Napa Gold, Mobil 1.
Many AVOID Fram filters due to concerns over the quality of contruction.

Mobil 5W30 is fine - or go with 5W40 if you plan to participate in a few HPDE track events.

Your car should take about 6.5 quarts with filter change. 10w30 is authorized by the owner's manual for ambient temps over 0F.

From what I have read the dipstick reading is confusing. Actually full is half way between the bottom line and the top line. The top line I think represents full at operating temperature.

I used around 6.5+ quarts with the filter change and add 1 quart when I do HPDEs as recommended by GM.

remember to fill your new filter with oil before putting it on your car.

good price from the dealer. Most run in the $60s and up range.

I bought a case of GM filters from FredBeans and then I was lucky to buy 20 cases of Mobil1 at half price. If someone was willing to change my oil for $8.61 I would pay under $30.00 which would be great.
