I managed to get the old BCM from them (they didn’t want to let me have it) – which I thought was odd…
I opened the BCM up and it looks completely spotless new - shows no signs of corrosion etc…
Does anyone know if someone out there rebuilds these things or can check to see if this thing is really bad???

Best Regards!

I might be willing to throw it in my car to see if it does anything wierd or if I have the same problem I've been having. PM Me if your interested.

Have battery charged up beforehand

Your going to do this 3 times.

Key on ( engine off) for 11 minutes
Key off for 30 seconds.

Again 3 times so that is about 35 minutes to do this relearn.
Bought a new BCM, it will crank right a way and fire, but then shut right off again.

Does this proceedure work on a new BCM, or does it need to be programmed some how? Also, is the time to the minute really critical?

The BCM must be programed for proper operations. Check for codes and see what is set, clear them and see what returns. Try the following and see if that will fix the starting and running problem. This will force the PCM and BCM to relearn the password used between them and will also force the BCM to relearn the PASS-Key resistance value.

1. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF for 11 minutes.

2. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.

3. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF for 11 minutes.

4. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.

5. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF for 11 minutes or until DTC P1630 sets.

6. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.

7. Turn ON the ignition leaving the engine OFF and wait 30 seconds.

8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine does not start, check for codes.

If that makes it run you will still need to program the following items for the BCM:

Country of Sale (US, Canada, Europe, Japan, etc.)
Real Time Damping (RTD)
Memory Options
Front Fog Lamps
HVAC (C60-Manual, CJ2-Automatic)
Active Handling
Auto Headlamp Control
Power Tilt/Telescope Column

These have to be programmed using a GM Tech2 which normally only GM dealers have. Let us know how it all goes!

Default No-Start : BCM never wakes : I have same problem!! What was the final fix??

I have the same problem with my 2001. The BCM never wakes-up, and the car won't start until the +12V to the BCM is interupted. What was your final fix?? New BCM??

A new BCM will need the relink procedure to establish communication with the PCM. The times posted are minimums....you can go longer, but not shorter.
