The column lock...(i dont know if its been installed in your year of c5) is a device that locks up the steering wheel column , you may notice it when you cut the car of and twist the wheel to the side. It LOCKS into posistion..
Well nifty idea and all , but the chimps at GM forgot to test it out i guess. basically some people get screwed that come to there car and start it.. they get a error on the DIC saying to pull the key out wait and put it back in. this is while the steering wheel column is locked. The key thing doesnt work MOST of the time , and you have to call up a flat bed tow truck. to take your car to the dealer and get a new Column lock installed on it. This has happend to people even with like 4k miles on their cars. Its basically like mechanical dice here on the cars that get it , and on the cars that dont.
A column lock bypass can be purchased offa the forums mall. its like 60 bucks i believe, its a lot less than going to the dealer , and less embarassing haha. so its your call.. you can go with the bypass .. or risk being Stared at oddly by that hot date you just took out , in front of the resturant , where everone is staring at you, and questioning american built cars.. LAUGHING at you.
although thats just my opinion, i could be wrong
