Default "chips" on EBay yes or no

Gorillachips is selling a chip for $40 that says increases 40+ HP. Sounds like garbage to me. Has anybody seen good HP gains from these chips? Should I buy or no? Stock 97 C5 with Borla Stingers...

The c5 doesn't use a chip.

I agree with what they said. The C5 has a flash program.

i think it's actually a potatoe chip coated in crack, makes you think it's 40 hp+ Save the 40 towards a CAI.

A computer chip on a C5? Thats old school technology. Computer chips and distributors have not been used in years. I'm sure this company sells points and carbertors for the LS1 too. Anyone out there have a dwell meter? Can I put a voltage regulator on my car? Can I put a Holly 4 barrel on my engine and take off the fuel injection? I need a timing light. So I can advance my timing.. I can't believe a company is selling a chip for an Ls1. When chips no longer exist.

Default Am I HIjacking?

This is a question about "chips", and I am not trying to start a flame war or anything adverse to anyone, just looking for answers.

One of the forum vendors, http://www.zip-products.com/ markets "Jet Power Control Modules" which appear to plug in somewhere, like a "chip". Or are these in fact reprogrammed PCMs? In the picture there is nothing to compare for a sense of scale.

They also claim up to 22 hp gain for $249.

I have not asked http://www.zip-products.com for any details yet.
Thought I might ask disinterested third parties first.

Hard to tell from that image but the blue part of the back of that module looks like it plugs into a prom slot like seen in the fuel computers in the early 80's. I'm betting that is a generic photo and is not really what you get. Unless it plugs between the PCM and harness, hard to tell from that photo.

I posted this a little while back http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...light=jet+chip

For some reason, no one believes me. Whatever.

Easy hot rodding??? Now days its just a few key strokes, a couple mouse clicks. Completely redo your advance curve or fuel map while sitting in your recliner! And there is no need to even wash your hands when your done! Now that is easy hot rodding!

If you feel so strongly, why don't you buy one and post the before and after dyno results. We'd like to know.

I also have the Jet performance module in my -98 six speed.
It was on the car when I bought it along with the Corsa catback,Halltech T1,180 stat with Vinci fancontroller and a adjustible fuel pressure regulator.
Had some problems with the car, that turned out to be a bad knock sensor.
Before I knew that I took everyting off(except Corsa, stat and Vinci)just to check.
After changing the knock sensor I put the Halltech back with NO difference in performance.I then put the Jet back on AND got some knocking at full trottle!
I added the adjustible fuel pressure regulator and now the car runs fine.
It pulls better with all these things on!The fuel is set to 60psi so it needs the extra gas to do its job(atleast on my car).

That said,I would have spent the money on some longtubes instead

I did buy one, I'm the guy who posted the thread!! I just need to get some results posted. I installed it before getting a baseline. So now I need to uninstall it, and use my G-tech (which I haven't hooked up yet). I realize this would be useful info, that's why I'm willing to do it. Otherwise, the SOTP was enough for me until people started bashing it, without even knowing anything about it.

the chip is below the battery compartment and can be reached by removing the right inner fender well w/just enough room to plug it in..yes they have them for the 97 but 40 hp is not possible...maybe 5-7hp.....check further i have read up on them and researched this subject. the 97 had been difficult to reflash but recently programs has surfaced which enables them to be retuned...98 and up are much easier to reflash than the 97..only a few i know of can do it

for handhelds there is the predator and the hypertech power programmer.

if you want to tune it yourself then there's HP Tuners or EFILive software.

all depends on what your comfortable with, but there is much more power to be gained by going with HP Tuners or EFILive.
