You do not need a sealer, but if your new gasket does not want to lay flat (which it wont )use a gasket tacking spray to hold it in place on the pan as you put it in place.

Do not use sealer on the gasket. The pan has a raised rib that forces the gasket against the transmission . Will seal fine, torque to 8# starting in the middle of the pan and working outward.
