Default Turn Signal Problems

I did a search, and found nothing about turn signal problems on C5's (Sorry if this is a dupe, but at least its not another Column Lock or Vararam vs. Blackwing thread!)

ANYWAY...Sometimes my turn signals won't work, it just happens intermittently, with no rhyme or reason. They won't work at all, then a few seconds, or sometimes minutes later they will work. This can happen once a month, or twice in one day, although in my 7 months of C5 ownership, its only happened 4 or 5 times.

BTW I own a 2000 FRC, 100% stock, no tune, mods, etc...

Anybody else come across this problem? Any ideas?

Thanks for any input!

Same problem on my 99, the hazard switch is the problem. It’s $32 at the dealer. EnglandGreen posted this how-to.

PS: do your search on "flasher" in the Archives, you'll get more hits

It's the hazard switch on mine. I have to punch it in and out a few times to get the turn signals to work... I know someone gave a great description with pictures of how to r&r the hazard switch... Yeah, here they are:

It's not impossible, but it's not for the inexperienced backyard mechanic, either.

YOU CAN DO IT!~!!!!!!!

I have the same problem.

One question before replace the flasher unit.

Should I check anything else first to be sure I have to replace the flasher unit?

Thanks

Replace your turn signal bulb. I was using the hazard switch work around for several weeks before the bulb gave an indication it was going bad. Bulb replaced 4 months ago, no more problem.

I have had the same problem for a year, just happems when it feels like. If I push the 4 way switch it will sometimes start the turn signal to work. It only happened about 5% of the time, now it's about 75% of the time. I just picked up a new 4 way switch from the dealer today.

And the GM quality keeps going and going. How many years has GM been making turn signals. Pathetic, really pathetic.

Thanks for all the help. I'll do the replacement of the flasher unit.

I also own a 2001 Chevy Malibu.

It also had the same flasher/turn signal problem after about 4 years.

Default How to Replace Bulb

Ok all...sorry for the dumb question, but how do you replace a turn signal bulb? I can't find an easy way to get at it.
