Default 1998 c5 manual doesn't start

Hoping someone out there can assist me. I have a 1998 c5 manual convertible that won't start. Battery is ok ; When ignition is turned to on position warning lamps come on clutch is engaged but nothing happens except the sound of relays clicking on start position.
when checking codes ...u1016 loss of communications with pcm appears in the history codes. car was doing this intermittently but now won't start.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as I am in Australia and there is very little info or expertise out here when it comes to late model Vettes.
You guys are fortunate in the States. A decent convertible c5 will cost the equivalent of $70,000 plus U.S. Dollars in Australia as they have to be converted to Right hand drive. Can't drive the car at the moment but she still looks great...HELP

The very first thing that I would check would be the CLUTCH SAFETY SWITCH on the drivers side fire wall directly behind the clutch peddle. The clutch hits it when you press it all the way to the floor/firewall! They are KNOWN to go bad!! When they go bad, you can press the clutch all the way to the floor and as you turn the key to start the engine, let up slightly on the clutch and BAM, it will start! You can be a cheep o and disassemble the switch and clean the green crap out of it. Best to buy a new one. If that doesnt work try this Clean the key resistor with alcohol, or a contact cleaner, and, when it is still wet with the cleaner, insert it and withdraw it several times in the keyhole to clean out anything in there. I would hope that takes care of your issue.

Might just need a new starter first. I'd look at the clutch switch first though.

Here is a starting diagram for a 98 C5. Like everyone else said check the clutch switch first. Next I would look at the TDR (Theft Deterrent Relay), this will be a good point to check the system from. If you short C1 to A2 the car should crank, be sure it is out of gear when you try this! If all is good there check for 12VDC on C2 when in crank position, this will test your ign switch and clutch switch. And if all else works make sure the BCM is grounding A1. If you find the BCM is not grounding the A1 then try cleaning the key again like stated above. If the BCM can't read the key it won't ground A1. What ever you do, don't send power into A1 if will fry the BCM!

Thanks for your help. The body control module is earthing A1 on crank.
C1 has its 12v supply & when c1 &A2 are shorted engine cranks.I have by passed clutch switch but do not have 12v on c2 during cranking or at any time.I have cleaned the key .When key is inserted and turned to on security light goes out relays can be heard clicking but no power on purple wire to clutch switch. Can you tell me where the purple wire goes (to ign switch or via a module ????). I have ordered a complete set of repair manuals but these are not here yet.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance your help has been great.

If you have no power on the purple wire @ the clutch switch, first check the #14 (10a) CRK fuse in the footwell fusebox.

If that is ok, it's looking like you may have a bad ign switch.

Thanks for your input guys. I have finally found the problem with my C5.The car had an aftermarket security system fitted which disables the feed to the theft det. relay and the fuel pump relay. SOLUTION; After market security system in the bin and re instate wiring to original specs.

All the best from down under.
