howl in rear end

I have a '99 vette with 82000 miles on it. When driving the car I get a loud howl from the rear. I'm thinking it might be bearing noise. I'm hoping if it is, it's the wheel bearing (i've changed those before), if not it may be the left carrier bearing. If it's the carrier bearing are they hard to replace? I was under the car yesterday and there did seem to be some play from the left alxe up my the CV boot.

Help plse

Howling noise

Mine turned out to be gear noise resulting from burnouts @ the dragstip, while standing on the brake of my A4. Had to buy a new rearend.

in my VERY limited experience with rear ends, a howl is usually gears while bearings are squeels or squeeks.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Been away from PC for awaile so no responces. Looks like its the carrier bearing on the drivers side, are those hard to replace? Does anyone know of a site I could read up on the process?
