I had my heads and cam done this year. Driving for a few months with no hints of a problem. One day I was cruising, getting on it just a little. I came to a red light and stopped. Suddenly a chime started and a message on dash flashed 'reduced engine power' and then flashed 'service traction system'. The car was still running but did not sound right. No power to really drive over like 5mph. I pulled off the road and turned the car off. I started it back up and it ran normal!! The check engine light was on but turned itself off after about 45minutes. This happened one other time after this with the same sceneiro.
Anyone have any thoughts on this. I know very little about the internals but it seems that engine power and traction system are very different and I can't understand why both problems were refelected at the same time. Any input would help. I'm kinda leary about driving her........THX..DTM
I got it for the third and fourth times last night. Seems to happen when I shift into third gear and tap quickly on the gas. I still have no idea why this is happening.......HELP!!

same thing happened to me about two years ago. All the lights started flashing, DIC said "reduced power". Shut the car off thinking it was just an electrical wig-out. Few hours later, I went back to my car and the thing wouldn't even start. Had it towed to the stealership and they said it was the battery.
I'd start with that if I were you. Hope this was helpful
My 98 has done this a couple of times. My mechanic feels its the very sensitive computer on the catylic converter that senses a change in the gasoline. Right or wrong, I try to use the same service station for 93 octane gas. Changing octane may also trigger this DIC message.
