Default Is this common issue for a C5?....

The round plastic trim around my key slot ignition switch is loose. It drives me crazy. Is this a common thing with a C5? Has anyone else experienced the loose plastic around the key slot ignition switch?

I broke mine 2 years ago. It drove me nuts as well. You need to remove the knee bolster to install the new one. The bezel is cheap, the work is a PITA.

Lift it a little and put a couple of dabs of black silicone in a couple of spots. press it in place and wipe up any excess.

Mine's loose too. Definitely under-engineered.

Easy fix and usually quiets any rattles.

Have a good one,
Mike

I was going to do the silicone trick but I elected to order a new one from the dealer. The part number for an 2002 is 2852046. My dealer overcharged (I mean CHARGED) me $22.55. I looked it up on GM Parts Direct and it's $9.38+$9.95s/h = $19.33.

Mine is loose also... I attributed it to the work that was done when the previous owner had the column lock recalls performed.....

Why would you want to mess around with the quality that GM's engineers built into the car?

Mine not only turned but eventually cracked and fell apart completely.

$17 for a new one and under 30 minutes of work and it's new again.
