Default Car Failed Inspection due to Codes

Greetings from Austin.

I have a small problem and hope you may be able to give me some insight. My car has had the service engine light come on regularly off and on. It comes on then after awhile, clears itself. I went to get my inspection sticker and the guy said he could not do it with the service engine light on. So I cleared the codes and he inspected it. His machine indicated no trouble codes, but it indicated that four monitors were not ready. So the car failed the inspection. He told me to drive the car for about 100 miles to get the monitors to reset again and to take it back for a retest. He would issue me the sticker once the machine indicates the monitors are set. I drive the car for about 100 miles but then the dreaded service engine light came on again. I looked up the code that it is throwing consistently and it is the following:

P0157 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Circuit Low Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 2

Does this mean that I have to replace an oxygen sensor? If so, which one? Is this something I can do myself or do I have to take it to a mechanic? I used to replace the oxygen sensor on my Camaro. They were relatively easy to get to. Am not sure where these things are on the Vette. Any insight is appreciated.

Also, if I wait until the service engine clears itself off, will this mean that the monitors are reset? I figure I could take it back to the shop and have him, hook it up to the machine and surely, with the monitors reset, he will pass my inspection an issue me the sticker.

Thanks.

I have heard the same problem from others who have cleared the code and then the testing equipment couldnt get a reading or whatever...

I believe bank 2 is passenger side. Sensor 2 is after the cat. I already replaced mine because of the same code. They are fairly easy to get to if you can get under the car. They are directly below the seats in the car. I think the part was 75 bucks.be careful though...even though the sensor is on the passenger side pipe, the wire runs up the driver side of the car...you'll see what i mean when you get under it. As i recall you need a special open end to get it loose...i didnt have the tool so i put vice grips on it and it was all good. Be sure to connect the wires after you install the sensor as you dint want to twist the wires.

Not sure about the amount of time to get the monitors reset. i would replace the sensor, clear the codes, drive it and then have them test it...im not sure how long it takes to get the monitors back "online" though...
