Hello Everyone i am new to the forum and to Corvettes. I just purchased my first Corvette, a 2001 convertible 6 speed with adjustable ride and upgraded cold air (twin flow). My question is what is the difference between my car and a zo6. I know it's hard top with rims, more horsepower and all that. What I would like to know exactly is the technical engine and powertrain difference. what do i have to do to upgrade to the equivalent or what is the smartest thing to do to get equivalent or more horspower out of it. I don't want to go crazy with the horsepower, nothing like 700, just a bit more! Any advice would be great. Thanks everyone.
z06's of course were fixed roof coupes had the following differences:
wheels 1" wider front and rear
powder coated red calipers
different cam, heads and 01 and later vettes all had LS6 intakes
transmission gearing was different
rear end gear is a 3 42
titanium hi flow catback exhaust
fixed trunk mounted antenna
rear brake ducts
screen in front fascia and rear brake vents
Z06 swaybars, springs and shocks
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head somebody help me out if i'm missing something
Do a cam upgrade, headers, exhuast and get the Z06 swaybars. That right there will put you MORE Hp and near Z06 handling. A very streetable cam will gain a lot of HP.
Horsepower mods are, frankly, no more than a third of the answer. You'll never get a 'vert as stiff chassis-wise as an FRC, and you'll have to work hard to get it as light.
Mine weighed in under 3100 lbs. (don't remember the exact number) with 15 gallons of fuel.
Z06s also come with a power steering cooler and different brake pads.
