Default Depressing Clutch pedal

This is just a question of curiosity. Is it necessary to depress your clutch all the way down to the floor in order to change gears? I usually press it down half ways and it doesn't grind. Am i doing harm to my clutch or not? Thanks in advance.

The stock clutch pedal is set high. You do not have to press it all the way to the floor. It fully releases at about 1/3 -1/2 total pedal travel. But don't worry, you will not do any damage if you push it to the floor. Next time you are driving try lightly putting some pressure on the clutch (without shifting). You will feel it (through your foot) as it starts to disengage over the first inch or so of travel. Tom

You can shift without depressing the clutch pedal at all if you match revs. Not that I'd recommend it, but I've done it.

Thanks for the replies. I now feel more safe knowing that i will not burn out my clutch, by not depressing it all the way.

Your clutch will be fine, but if it's not disengaged all the way, it can be extemely hard on synchros in the transmission. Replacing them isn't cheap.
Why not just push it all the way down?
