Check engine light came on the other day and took my 01 Z06 into the dealer to have them look at it. Just before I arrived it started smoking out of the exhaust and smelling of gas. They took a look at it and said maybe a stuck injector. Came back a couple hours later and they tell me now it might be a broken valve spring. Left it over the weekend until they could work it in on Monday to get it fixed. Got a call from them and they said the valve spring was ok. They said there was a noise in cylinder 1 and they scoped into it and noticed some piston damage and also low compression. Now they are going to remove head to look into cylinder wall and ring.
It has 13000 miles on it and has had the best of care. I had asked if GM would back any work of this kind with such low mileage. They told me to contact customer service to inform them of the problem.
Has anyone dealt with a problem of a low mileage Corvette with internal engine problems, and can give me any kind of advice or what to expect?????????
I know there was ring problems on the 01's but mine never used enough oil between changes for a recall.
Ouch. Sounds like maybe a valve got into the top of the piston. Five years old and only 13K miles; did the car set up for any length of time?
If you feel up to it, I'd take her home and do some compression tests, then pull the heads if needed. If you don't, I'd get some CF advice on a good shop in your area.
if the car is out of warranty all I can say is good luck. You might get it covered but I would be very surprised. If you do, great, if not I see some mods in your future.
Remember there is nothing so bad that some good can't come of it, especially with engines. When one goes pop its usually just means its time to do some outrageous setup.
BTW sorry for your luck. My 99 with 5k miles on it had the drivers door lock stop working the day I bought it....
