I had always thought that the drivers side was the weak side but tpfay I found out that it is the passanger side... I must be going crazy.... I dunno.... but that was from my installer and dte I guess that I am just crazy.... is there anywwhere cheaper than dte to get this shaft, gear, and clip... they want 500
The 500 is for the short shaft with the gear on it. The short side has the gear pressed on, so you have to buy both. If you just want the longer side (the one prone to breaking) you can pick them up for the 2xx that Mark was talking about. You probably won't find it any cheaper.
Our left HD output shaft is $299 and our right HD output shaft is $249. You will also need the mating right side gear and related snap ring of $249 to properly install the right output shaft; hence the overall cost of the right output shaft kit of $500.
Selling the right output shaft without the proper mating side gear and snap ring is incomplete and would be comparable in foolishness to somenone buying a tire with no wheel... It's "cheaper", but it won't do you any good....
FYI, most people break the left side. On mine the right side snapped first. The products DTE offer are top notch. Actually, the DTE built rear is the only thing that has held up on my car pass after pass. Even though their prices may seem high, their components are worth it in the long run.
If you race your car I'd recommend getting both shafts replaced with the upgraded components.

Same here. If you are going to drag race get both sides and the brace too. I found out the hard way and it ended up costing me a lot more by not doing it right the first time. DTE is the way to go.
