Default Brake purchase advise!

I'ts time for my first brake job. I would like to put 4 new cross drilled rotors, red Z06 calipers, and pads for under a grand. It is a daily driver so I don't need a road race set up. Is this possible?

You don't need z06 calipers, Yours are the same, the only difference is the Z06 is painted red. Buy some caliper paint and paint them.

Ship the drilled rotors and buy some rotors with slotts only. Drilled rotors are for show only.

Search the forum and there will be some other advice.

You can be just under $900. if you keep your stock calipers and go with the 2 piece front and 1 piece rear Eradispeed rotors with Hawk pads all around. We have some discounted packages for the rotors/pads. The complete listing is -

2301011pack Front EradiSpeed (2 Piece) 12.75" Rotors with Hawk pads $549.99

2301025pack Front EradiSpeed (1 Piece) 12.75" Rotors with Hawk pads $359.99

2302020pack Rear EradiSpeed (1 Piece) 12" Rotors with Hawk pads $329.99

2302021pack Rear EradiSpeed Plus two (2 Piece) 14" Rotors with Hawk pads $639.99

Hawks Pads? Them's performance pads right? Like semi-metal or metal or something like that? Don't they squeek until they get warmed up? I went with AC Delco Durastop Ceramic pads cause i didn't want a lot of brake dust or squeeking...

Here is my little write up on painting my calipers...
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1447448

It's pertty much exactly what rws.1 said...

Sportbrake Rotors $245 Shipped (Free Shipping if CF member)
AC Delco Durastop Ceramic Pads $126+shipping

I went to Autozone and used a can of Dupli-Color Red Caliper paint - got like 4-5 coats on all the calipers and brackets...

Once decesion you'll have to make is if you want to paint the brackets or not. I see lots of people paint just the calipers but not the brackets. Some people even paint the brackets glossy black and calipers red (which looks good too) but i chose to paint them both red.

GL and Have fun i enjoyed it a lot!!

I am going with the dimpled and slotted rotors instead. And I will paint my calipers. I don't know which pads to get though. It is a daily driver and I don't want squealing or brake dust! Thanks.

I went with AC Delco ceramics. I don't race or track my Z06 and I didn't want to deal with the brake dust on my HRE's.

Contact Gene @ Fred Beans. They are a vendor here and have great customer service and good prices.

Glad you got your Brake setup done.

For anyone else that needs a simple street brake upgrade, StopTech has Stage 1 and Stage 2 packaged upgrades.

The Corvette Stage 1 kit includes Hawk HPS pads, StopTech Stainless Steel lines, and 3 bottles of Motul RBF 600.

The Stage 2 kit would add Slotted or X-drilled rotors to the above.

Stage kits include components for all 4 corners of the car and save you a bit of money.

Retail Stage I for C5 is $349, and Stg.II is $699. If you shop around you can probably get these for slightly less from one of our authorized resellers. LG Motorsports is one of our biggest corvette resellers, and they are also forum sponsors.

The Hawk HPS is a very popular, low dust, low noise pad. It puts off a light, 'coppery' colored dust, unlike the thick black dust of the stock pads.

More details here: http://8.7.96.35/products/stage1_2_upgrades.shtml
You would still want to get some good race pads before taking the car on the track though.

Default brake job

Did mine for abt $200 including new front delco rotors.
OEM pads and rotors at gm distributer (Delcoline etc.)
Front pads abt $80 rear pads abt $65
OEM delco rotors $23.80 each
Duracolor caliper paint (enuf to do 4 more rotors left) $15

Stayed away from durastop pads regular and ceramic
less brake dust
LESS STOPPING POWER

Enjoy?

Did you adjust the parking brake when takling off the rear rotors?
Mine didn't grab for 5 yrs. DO NOW.
Advice on adjusting star wheels till rotors JUST GRAB
then you do some backups at 5 - 10 mph and slam on the hand brake
adjusts fine
