I was just curious if someone could give me some info about doing the 6.0L head swap. I wasn't able to find out a whole lot on my own. The first thing I need to know is which heads are the right ones to get for the swap. Im assuming its the #317 castings but, what vehicles do these heads come on? Is this a direct swap or is there machine work involved? Finally, can I swap the PRC dual springs, tit retainers, and TSP pushrods that are currently in my LS1 over to the 6.0L's and do I get gaskets for the LS1 heads or the 6.0L heads. Please, anyone who has experience, chime in. Im going to get this underway SOON and would like to go scout a few local recyclers for the heads. As always guys, thanks.
The 317 heads are the ones your looking for, they have 72cc cumbustion chambers compared to your LS1's 64 cc chambers. So if your not going forced induction you will need to have them milled down. ANd they have the LS6 port design. Your springs and such all swap over with no problems and you can get ls1head gaskets.

Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear. I really didn't want to have to purchase new springs, retainer, etc etc.
What year and type Chevrolet vehicles did these heads come on and can I use my TSP pushrods with them? Thanks fellas.

317's are found on all 6.0l truck engines. You might be better off looking for some 243's as Steve mentioned above though because after you spend $$ getting them milled then rechecking pushrod length and manifold fitment you'd probably be cheaper off getting the 243's.
I'm assuming you are boosting a motor with these heads from your previous posts looking for a procharger. You will want to use the 6.0L MLS head gaskets part #12589227 when puting 317 heads on an LS1/LS6 block. Also I would recommend using ARP head studs for boosted motors. I'm going to use 317 heads on my new forged motor also...And yes everything else should bolt right on The 317 heads are on all 6.0L Truck motors from 2001 and up. And on the Cadallic 6.0L motors as well...

Thanks for the info. Im currently looking at a pair that is off a 99' Sierra. Are these #317 castings as well?
As far as I know from the research I did before buying my set of 317's, most truck heads prior to 2001 were not aluminum..So I don't think those are 317's
