Default Best Intake system for C5?

Wondering which makes a better intake system, the Twin Flow Intake or the Vortex Cold Air Induction system. The prices are relatively the same in some places, but I do not see a consistency in the HP they claim to produce, seems to range anywhere from 14 to 30 HP. Any opinions?

I recommend a Donaldson Blackwing filter.

Ditto. I looked at all of them for my first mod and got the Blackwing while at BG this weekend. Four guys had it and loved it with no negatives like cutting holes (even in a cheap panel) and no sucking up water worries. :yesnod:

Vortex works great for us. The problem with dynoing is the variation in results. We had our car dynoed three times, back-to-back. The was as much as 9 RWHP difference from the highest to the lowest.

Just remember that Vortex requires cutting the shroud, but this does open up the area for significantly more air flow.

I like my Vortex too! Noticable increase in power right away. It goes on the dyno this weekend.

Both filter systems in question work well but I would give the nod to the Vortex if I had to choose between the two. Out of all systems available for the money, the Blackwing is among the best, if not the best in my opinion. The Vortex is a cold air system(you will have to modify and cut your shroud) but the Blackwing out of the box is not. No cutting or modifying. Later, you can add the cold air box for it if you want. Its a nice option but not a necessity.
Both the Vortex and the Blackwing will do between 14-17hp.

keabler,

My vote goes to the Vortex! Check out my notes here:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=144445

I just installed mine this weekend. So far I couldn't be happier with the SOTP performance increase. :D

I read as many posts as I could about intakes before choosing the Vortex. Do a search of the C5 tech forum and the C5 general forum. Don't forget to search the current threads and the archived threads. Go to manufacturers' web sites, too, and read their propaganda and the magazine articles about their products. In the end, choose the intake that matches your personal requirements. I, for example, liked the idea of cold air and wasn't afraid of hydrolock or cutting the shroud. So the Vortex was right for me.

Any decent intake should give you a nice increase in the car's willingness to rev--which in turn makes the car more fun to drive... and faster. You will love any intake you get.

Good luck!

Cold Air Systems are the best... the Vortex and Proflow are the most reasonable of them, low $200s

The best $ for $ I've found is the Xtreme Hi-Flow $79 filter.

The box enclosure is also $79.

I knocked .3 off my et and added 3mph with this filter and ZO6 screens, no cutting the shroud.

My BUDS AND i HAVE BOUGHT DONALDSONS FROM NATE @ XTREME MOTORSPORTS.Performs amazing sucks in tons of air and dollar for dollar
is the best filter made out there.G.M. uses it on so many of there vehicles
I was very surprised not to see it stock on 02' Z06.
Nates a great guy the filter is real EZ to install but if your brain is numb he will talk you through the install even on his dime, the forum has alot of great vendors but my generation 4&5 buddies consider him #1 by a long shot.
You can reach him currently @ 806-798-0246 he has been hard to reach his tuning talent has been discovered by the masses and hes opening a shop 12-15x's larger and it will be here in AZ. with another warehouse in NY.
Call him and just the sound and and SOTP feel will be worth it.Good Luck,
David Smilovic.(mention my my name you may get 5-10.00off Any savings is worth it.Yours Truly Dave.

Wondering which makes a better intake system, the Twin Flow Intake or the Vortex Cold Air Induction system. The prices are relatively the same in some places, but I do not see a consistency in the HP they claim to produce, seems to range anywhere from 14 to 30 HP. Any opinions?
Talk to bparker on the forum. He has both of the intakes and can give you a real world comparision I think. I'll let him speak for himself, but I saw the two intakes in one of his pictures, so I think he has some comparison opinions when it comse to the two aftermarket intakes you are thinking about.

do you really need the hood seal? i went home today in a hellacious rain storm and opened my hood and it was dry as a bone in there. i am still stock, but thinking of the vortex or blackwing.

ps- does the cold air box really do much???
