will i need a tune after dynatech supermaxx install
will putting my new dynatech supermaxx system on this week...on a 97 ...do i have to do a tune or will it run okay stock tune...i am not looking for raising shift levels or rev limit rpm levels...i like the trans at current settings..but does a tune redo the air ratio and the timing ?? i have a raptor intake w/corsa cat backs thanks.
got them in today..man..they are pretty...but i am getting cold feet on installing them myself....
well...couldnt find anyone to install w/o waitng a month so i did it myself in the garage....it took me 3 hours to removed old system...included jacking car up and hunting down tools ...tomorrow...goes the install of the new supermaxx system....cant wait!!!
Don't bother, you might gain 10hp, but if you ever do a cam or anything else you would have to get it retuned. Just wait till your all done, and have it tuned once. No sence in throwing 400 bucks around.
well i guess anything is possible, all the cars i have seen net around 10, But like i said if you have plans for the future then wait and have it tuned only once.
You all may be right, but many vendors like ChuckCow in New York charge you a one time fee for his tune. If you do more upgrades and and need to retune, he will not charge you. I believe he stores your info on his system... Not exactly sure how it works, but you can't beat the customer service.

Tom Wong of Vancouver's Performance Engineering commented on the subject when i asked him these very same questions. He's a very good Tuner with a LOT of experience tuning LS1s... before & after Dynatech Supermaxx installs...

From my experience we have gained as much as 40 to 45hp with the headers and a good cat back and a tune. Without a tune I have see about 20 to 25hp with the headers.
He says he often sees a gain of 20hp after a tune (assuming good catback...)

He confirmed to me that the car is perfectly driveable w/o a tune after the header install...
