Default Help! Computer gone nuts?

My Vetty is giving me grief all of a sudden. The "change the oil soon" warning comes on, (I changed the oil in April, Mobil 1), the gas gauge flops to empty on a full tank, (done it before and fixed with Techron), the remote seems to be causing Vetty to honk several times, and sometimes unlocks the door, or locks the door, after I have put it in my pocket, and finally, the latest, the speedometer shows me going 70 while doing 40.
The dealer mechanic says, probably new computer. Is that what I am facing?
Please say it isnt so.

Did the dealer mechanic say which computer(s) he thought you needed replaced? As with any C5 electrical problem first always make sure you have a good battery! Since you have so many things going on that don't seem related it sure sounds like power or ground problem. Make sure you battery is good, then start looking a grounds. Check your codes and post what you find. Clear all your codes and drive it a while, the check and see which codes return. Post any returning codes. The codes will give everyone a good idea of what is going wrong.

Default computer going nuts??

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The battery was replaced this spring.
Being a "senior" lady vette owner, how do I check codes?
The mechanic was just trying to answer my question. I am not even sure he was a mechanic as he was at the desk for checking in.
I will try your suggestions after I learn how to do it, but I need to get going on it since the speedometer being off is not a good thing

#1 when you had the oil changed did they reset the oil life monitor?

#2 the guage flopping to empty on a full tank is common to a lot of vette mostly the early years and will require replacing of the sending unit in the tank.... both my vettes had this problem

#3 Is the remote set to auto lock? if so the car will lock and unlock every time you move near your car... its supposed to

#4 you arnt driving in "metric" mode are you? does the dash display KPH?

Hope this helps a little

Default computer gone nuts

Hi again,

Would the horn keep honking after I have locked the car and gone into the building, without my touching the fob? And when I get in the car, and close the door, I hear it clicking like its locking but the door isnt locked???? Weird!
I remedied the gas gauge by adding Techron when it was doing it a year ago and it hasnt done it since until yesterday, but now its okay again. Weird!! I had just filled it too.

Yes depending on how far away you are every time you move it will lock and unlock and honk the horn if you have it set like that. Just go into the options on the dash and turn off the autolock feature or turn it off on the key fob itself.

Default computer gone nuts

Hi,
Thanks for the tips and encouragment. I have solved the problem by simply reading the manual. Computer is fine.
I changed to standard, reset the oil thing, and reprogrammed the fob.
Talk about hitting the old panic button. I was dead sure I was going to have to install a new computer, per the "expert" at the dealership.
Thanks again, as I have learned a lesson and would rather talk to experts like you guys than a person who is going to try to get as much money out of me as he can. No Way.
