I have a 2001 MN6 with H/C that puts down 405 RWHP. Since modding the engine I have noticed my differential is starting to howl
While this is probably a result of multiple romps through the gears and additional stress to the drive train, can anyone advise me on what I can do to address this problem before it gets worse (other then back off on the throttle). Currently I notice it at speed during interstate driving. The car is still under an extended warranty but when the dealer hears the engine idle I'm sure that option will be nixed.
You can try running thicker fluid for the time being, but if it's making noise, the damage is done already. Start saving for a rebuild, or hope it's covered.
Sounds like its shot or soon will be. If GM won't do a warranty repair you might as well change to a 3.73, 3.90 or 4.10 while you're at it. Try DTE for info.
I would post in the general section for a dealer in your area who is lenient on mods. Some dealers are easier to do business with than others and I think some of the forum brothers can help you.
Most dealers like doing GMPP work. I haven't had a lot of questions asked when I've taken my cars in for repairs. When the control arm bushings went bad on my 97 one of the local dealers installed Poly bushings in my old control arms and did a re-alignment. All labor was charged to GMPP and I paid for the Vette Brakes and Products bushings. They knew how I used the car because the rollbar was very evident.
