Had my car in for A/C servcing...Dealer said Oh by the way...we see where you have not had the column lock recall service...I thought yeah ok...I have been getting almost a constant pull key wait 10 second message lately...although once I did the drill car ran fine..Took my 2000 A4 coupe in yesterday...Dealer called today said it was done....Dropped wife off after work...she picked it up brought it home ...no problem...no pull key wait 10 seconds...parkerd car in drive way....not 15 minutes later I went out to pull it into garage..turned key...got the pull key wait 10 seconds command....did the drill and then got SERVICE COLUMN LOCK COMMAND ....car then went into the 2 mph fuel shutdown....Never had that prior to the recall service ...just the pull key BS.....immediately called dealer...they sent a flatbed tow truck out to get the car......I can't quite understand this whole nightmare..If the recall hardware wasn't good...why did my wife start it at the dealership and get it home? What do I do once I get it back from the dealership..or what are they/can they do now that they have it again....this is a freaking nightmare.....I want my C4 back!
The latest recall on the '98's was to remove the assembly all together. The fix a while back was to reprogram the computer to shut off fuel if the column was locked over a certain MPH. I bet the 2000's only get the reprogram.
I had the issue about 6 months back. The first 5 times it popped up, I was able to easily shut the car off and everything was fine. After that, it took forever to get it to unlock. I put in a bypass and have been ok since.
I have noticed some minor issues since I installed the bypass with the A/C and memory functions, not sure if they are related. Was thinking about getting the latest recall done, but don't want a reflash of the PCM or my car won't run due to H/C.
I would read the column lock sticky thread before you head back to the dealer.
I'm going to let GM keep doing the recall until they get it right and then I'm going to put in the bypass....I'd like to drive this car without worrying about the fuel shutting off at 2 mph for the rest of the time I own this car!
My personal experience is that all of the relays in the GM k harnesses are no good and they will fail. GM tech support told my dealer that the relays are bunko!
