Default My SuperCharging Thread

Hey there folks,

I recently did the basic bolt on mods and ran a pathetic 13.1@111 mph in my coupe after running a 12.8@110 nearly stock. As you can imagine I am frustrated and it was embarrasing to be in the 13s and I won't have it!

So I want this to be a thread where I can get help on a supercharging project that I am going to do myself.

It is an early 98 coupe with stock engine and stock fuel system. Have ALL of the bolt ons. Where do I begin? I don't want to make insane hp just want to bolt the supercharger on and not have to modify everything around the engine bay to make it work.

Which supercharger should I purchase and what fuel mods or other supporting mods will I need to do?

Thank you for your input and please be specific because I am starting from ground 0

look at east coast supercharging they have a paxton novi 2000 system that comes with everything that u need... i have a stock 02 z06 added the paxton and i made 546rwhp and 466 rwtq... they are a supporting vendor so they have a link on the lefthand side of the screen... and you may wanna post this or have it moved to the Forced Induction section

ECS is a good choice...also look at the new ATI twin intercooler setup... it was designed for a stock motor like yours.

I might be a tad biased, but I would go with the ECS Paxton kit, it's most expandable kit on the market and comes 100% complete. Feel free to call the shop or PM me if you have any questions.

Guys sorry to burst your bubble lol But I am probably not interested in buying a premade kit. I just wanted to add about 100rwhp at the moment without opening up the engine. Something I could slap on and go and have tuned. I guess not many corvette guys have done a DIY supercharger on c5s

This is my only car and daily driver so having 450-475rwhp max would be a smart idea for the life of the engine and for my life !

If this is your goal it can be achieved with a well thought out heads and cam package. And if you install it yourself can be done relitively cheap.

You say "all the bolt on's" but what exactly do you have?

Yeah I do realize that but I didn't want to touch the internals of the engine. Superchargers are not that expensive alone and if I did this all myself and had the rest fabricated by a friend I could do it cheaply and say I have a Supercharged vette!

Here's what I have and I'm planning a LS6 manifold and ported TB within a couple weeks.
Edit: The headers are not installed yet

If you want cheap and to say your car is supercharged then just add the turbonator.

So basically you have an underdrive pully, cold air intake installed??? If I were you I wouldnt be to upset at your times in the FL heat you really have no major power adders...

Forced is a great way to go, but there is nothing wrong with cracking the engine open and eventually you will!!

I added the A&A kit to my Vette last year. Simple kit (made even simpler now since it doesn't require moving the radiator) and made 550 rwhp with the only other major mods being headers, catback, and gears. And mine is a daily driver as well.

If you only want around 450 hp go with a head and cam package and a good tune. The magnachargers get you to that same point but you would also have to change the hood for that type of supercharger.

Don't know how much luck you are going to have with pre-fabing your own system. The price of the A&A or ECS kits is not that high especially compared to the additional time and energy of trying to make something work.

If it's your only car I would leave it alone. Seriously.

If you want a simple 100 hp gain just add a 100-125 shot of N20.

honestly youll probably run into tons of problems by fabbing one up yourself. in the end you'd be better off buying a kit. but, it can be done. id go w/ a&a or ecs kits. they are proven kits! you wont have to worry about shredding belts, slippying belts, etc. heads units run roughly $2000 plus $1000 for intercooler and an addition $800-1000 for pulleys. not to mention all the work your gonna have to put into fabbing it up yourself. goodluck on your decision!!

So what exactly did you have in mind? You want to buy a ProCharger or Vortech head-unit and then piece together the rest of the kit?

That is good advise to leave it alone. Everything right in me says leave it leave it or it won't be reliable and you'll have to get another car to daily drive. But the car has just turned out so well in the appearance department and I want to represent corvettes and have it perform now. A high 12 second car is what I have now with the added heavier 19" wheels and tires.

I think the nitrous is not a fair hp mod. It is just not for me it feels like cheating and more for ricers. Not bashing anyone that has nitrous I just think supercharging sounds badass for an american car as turbocharging does for imports.

No, I was thinking about buying one of these and polishing it myself. Having my friend make the bracket and intake piping etc.

I've never even been in a supercharged car but I sure know I like big turbos. Everyone always brags about how fun their supercharged car is and plus the sound is awesome too.

Forgot to mention thanks for all of the help guys, this site means a lot to me. I don't want to spend the big money on a nice premade kit with expanability etc because I just want to have a little extra power without opening up the engine. This is a lot easier for me to install than heads/cam trust me.

If your on a "budget" and don't want to open up the motor, nitrous is the only way to reach 450rwhp.
