I see that Fred Beans has the HUD parts listed for sale as below:
10279814 – HUD
12198648 – Switch
10425223 – Bezel
My question is what else is needed besides the wiring harness?
He has them for $311 for all three parts, but when pacethis had his kit it was for $399 (still is on ebay) so Im wondering what else would be needed from Fred Beans to make this work?
PaceThis makes and sells the cable that goes from the switch to the HUD. GM doesnt sell it, so you will need this. I think he sells the cable by itself for $45. I think you will also need a new instrument cluster if the cluster in your 99 isn't HUD enabled. HTH.
So if I can get everything for $350 (I already have a HUD-capable cluster)....what is the $50 premium getting me beyond install instructions? Does he send any oddball fasteners or anything like that which doesnt come with the individual parts from GM?
Im getting really close to pulling the trigger on this, but I want to get an idea of which direction I should head....

yes, this is a 'turn-key' kit, ALL parts included
you can't buy the harness from GM, the tools req'd to make one are expensive
Josh’s kit definitely takes the guesswork out of the install. The kit also comes with 4 push-mount bezel leg retainers, double side tape, and a projector leg install kit. I’m sheer this can all be obtained at your local hardware store.
OK, thanks for all the info...that is what I wanted to hear. Like I originally posted, it looks like the three parts from Fred Beans are $310, and the wiring harness is around on ebay for $40 or so, so I wanted to know what the rest of the goodies were that come with the kit..
Definitely sounds the way to go, thanks!

Josh ( PaceThis ) installed the HUD I have in my '01 Z06 and did a fabulous job. All the parts were included in his price for a trouble free install. As said in earlier posts it is the harness and the mounting hardware /retainers that you will need. Josh also includes very detailed instructions of the installation process which makes it easier to install and takes the guesswork out for you. I'm sure there are others out there who may have these parts and can install them too with professional results. I was just sharing what experience I had with him and his installation.

I've dealt with Josh in the past and he's a stand up guy as well as a long time forum member. He doesn't steer folks wrong.

Fred Beans doesn't have any of the other required parts to make this work...though they are great to deal with, and I deal with them on many parts I need.
In addition to those parts, you'll need a couple of pieces of double sided tape (you only want 3M), a fastener, washer, and screw for the projector leg tie down, 4 dash bezel leg clips, and the wiring harness for the switch to instrument cluster. The kits sold by CarolinaCorvettes (yes that's me) on eBay have all of these items, as well as full color instructions, a DVD install video, and email/phone support in case you get stuck.
If you're willing to do a little legwork, it can be done cheaper. However, I've put a lot of time into these kits and am the C5 HUD expert. Hundreds of forum members have used my kits without problems.
I'll probably be offering a "completion kit" in the future to complement Fred Beans offerings, but the total price won't be any cheaper.
Just go with PACE THIS !!! Josh is a great guy to deal with... after a small miscue while doing my hud kit I called Josh with a minor issue of the dash cut not being exact and a very small cut line showing on the top of the trim panel... I was outta my mind pissed off over what a dumbass I was.. Josh settled me down and walked me through the "fix"
and was a great asset to have during the process. You will save nothing and miss out dealing with a true gentleman and a friend you can turn to when you need a hand with virtually any project on your car...
This was not a paid political announcement !!!

I emailed Josh via ebay a few weeks ago, and these posts makes me feel even better. I will be getting a 2000 Corvette in November, and have already asked about having him do the HUD install. Ooooohhhhh! I can't wait! Well, actually, yes, I can. It's still a little hard to believe I am actually getting to buy my second Corvette, and it's only been 26 years since I sold my first one (pictured in the avatar) so I could buy our first home.
I am looking for a HUD installer in the DC metro area (northern VA, DC or southern MD). I have a 2000 C5 Coupe that didn't originally come with a HUD. I can provide a brand new GM Hud Kit. Any takers? Please PM me a quote. Thanks!
