I've decided to sell my VR4 and get a C5, I should have enough for the car but I want to know how much my first few modifications will cost me in labor. I intend to get a street cam for it and suporting valvetrain upgrades, how much should it cost ballpark to get installed? Also what would be involved in installing headers and x pipe, I would like to tackle that myself if possible?
I think it somewhat depends on the brand of cam and "how much" cam you get - An LG Motorsports cam will run you about $495.00 for just the cam - you can check their website (they are a supporting vendor of the Forum) but I believe their cam kits (everything w/ the cam) is $1,349.00 - If you have their cam and need a cam kit for valvetrain components, I believe that runs around $750.00
Header install is possible to do yourself if you have access to the tools - basic set plus jackstands, jacks and ramps - LS1.com has one of the best write ups for a header install that I've seen - also, some manufacturers have very good instructions when you purchase their headers - a set of Dynatech Supermaxx LT headers will run you about $1,350.00 NOT installed.
I'm not sure on the labor to install either the headers or a cam - call any supporting vendor and they will be very happy to quote a price, even if you are not local to them, they will get you a very close "going rate" install price for the "Vette" industry
Perhaps you might want to consider a set of heads when doing the cam? also, you will need to have it tuned after the cam and headers are installed
Good luck and welcome aboard. Hang out, listen and you'll find lots of friendly guys with LOADS of useful information.
