Default C5 Exhaust Manifold quesionts

I have a few questions about exhaust manifolds for the C5 corvette. What years were they made where you could weld on them and modify them? Also, were they like the f-body where in a certain year the manifolds flowed better than the older ones?

This is just for example purposes but I found this on ebay (don't want to pay that much for manifolds) and it looks like it could be welded and modified which I need for my project. I also need one that has that design so I'm assuming it's from '97 to '99 that they did that maybe?

Thanks!

When modding the exhaust most people junk the stock units and replace them with shorties or long tubes. Are you planning some kind of turbo mod ? Is cost your issue ? Some long tubes can be gotten on ebay for $500.

If you take the effort to remove the stock manifold you might as well go for a better flowing design such as above - in addition your engine bay will look better !

Tell us what mod you have in mind, it is rather difficult to answer your question without some background.

It's a total custom project where off the shelf headers won't work. Even like a '98 C5 manifold is going to have to be modded to work.

I am going to be making the car emissions legal and just want to get it running right now and drive the car around some. The chassis is older than '96 so it's going to have to pass the sniff test and I won't want to spend $850 on a custom set of headers just yet and have all the emissions stuff on it. I'm going to look into doing that later and have it be just a race car then and take all the emissions off. Just wanting a cheap way of getting the car running and on the streets for now and will look into other solutions later.

Well the 01 and up manifolds flow the best (they are a common part with Z06s,) but I don't know about their modability.

I'm guessing that they are cast iron ones as well... oh well, just going to have to see how the '97 to '00 type manifolds work if I can get my hands on some.

Thanks for the info!

97 to part of the 00 run are stainless steel. Light but not a good design and tough to weld. They do hug the block better than tube headers if that's what you're looking for. - C.

So they are stainless steel huh, well darn, guess I'll have to get different welding wire or have somebody tig them up for me once I mod them and get them configured how I want them.

Yes, I am looking for ones to hug the block nicely and also exit between cylinders 5 and 7 like I've seen in pics so hopefully they will work for me.

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer, the issue is the f-body manifolds exit in the incorrect spot. I have '00 manifolds that I tried and they won't work. Got a set of '99 Vette ones coming my way and hopefully they will work.

Thanks again!
