Default Question about the external temperature sensor

I just recently (this week) finished working on my 02 Z06. I had to replace the front end (skid plate, bumper, lights, air dams, radiator, condensor and all associated parts) due to an unfortunate hydroplaning incident. Everything went back together great but when I ran it for the first time today I found ONE problem. The car said the external temperature was 69 degrees when it was close to 100 today. I found ONE piece left over and it is small black piece that has a spot where you plug something into it. It has 2 small single prongs in it and whatever plugs into it is small and kind of oval. It has a black small tip on it like it is a probe or a sensor. Is this the external temperature sensor and if it is EXACTLY where does it go? I do not remember seeing any clips that were not plugged into something. Did I overlook it? This was not a problem before I took the car apart. I would post a pic if I could.
