Default Nitto questions

Well I'm leaning toward going with Nittos on my car. I looking at;
245/45/17 Nitto 555 Extremes on the front
305/35/18 Nitto 555 II on the rear
I can pick these up for around $840 to my door. I am just trying to find the best "Traction for the buck$$." I don't road race, but the 245 Nittos are a good price for a good reputation. My concern is the rears with their 6/32 tread dept. I want good traction, but no issues if I get caught in the rain.
For guys that have experienced both, how does the 305 555 II compare in straight line traction to the 295/35 Goodyear F1 GS-D3?
I personally think the GY would be a better driving tire, and it cost less, but I need some traction.
Thanks

The Nitto 555 is a great tire with excellent value. My '99 is stock, but the 555's definitely give me better traction than the runflats, at a significantly lower cost. I'm on my second set of Nittos, with the first set lasting almost 40,000 miles. My runflats lasted 20,000.

I have run the Goodyear, Khumo and Nitto's, the Nitto's provide the most traction by far. On the street, the 555 R II, wear OK, but you start with only 6/32 of tread. I use them for combination of street and HPDE events and can get about 3000 miles on a set - 1000 of that on the track. I am now going to dedicated track slicks, but am still running the Nitto's on the street (I am a fair weather driver). I have driven them on the street and track in the rain and, well, I don't like the rain for a car with over 500 RWHP and Torque! For a street tire, I still like the Khumo Ecsta MX, but I don't think it is being made anymore.

I run the Nitto 555's up front and 555 DR's out back. Never had an issue, even when I was caught in a rain storm.

I run the same ones up front, however I run the Autocross tires NT-01's and love them, but expect them to last about 4-5k. For me that is fine as they hug the road and as far as spinning tires anything short of slicks for my setup will not help

That's pretty much what I was wanting to hear. I NEVER drive my car if the forecast calls for rain, but when we go for a weekend trip or on our annual vacation, I always drive my car, and ALWAYS encounter rain.
I do hope that I can get more than 3000 miles out of a set however
Do the rest of you guys get any better milage out of the 555IIs if you're not going to the track? I love to spirited driving, and do it pretty much everytime I drive the car, but I would imagine the repeaded burnouts would accerate tire wire quite a bit!!

I have the 305/35/18 DR's and I have over 12K on them now.I have maybe 25 1/4 mile runs on them.I do not abuse them on the street (no burnouts/street racing) and am hoping to get at least 15k out of them.I took a 300 mile trip to RPM trans with them at the begining of the month.On the way home we ran into a realy big rain storm.The tires held their own at speeds up to 60 mph.
