There was a similar thread a month or so ago. As memory serves, the consensus was that tt seemed likely that a bad connection was made or the CAGS "interrupter" had a bad or wrong resistor in it. If the purchased unit did not work after several attempts at replugging in, I'd try a new one. BTW, you DID unhook the battery as the instructions say? Many, many of these units have been installed with no problems, myself included. Best of luck!

If installed correctly, its Most likely a defective unit.... I don't think you have to disconnect the battery, I didn't.

Since code P0803 essentially does nothing more than measure the resistance of whatever is connected to the 2nd/3rd gear lockout harness, there's virtually no way that this code can appear unless:

(1) The CAGS eliminator is not plugged in properly or all the way.
(2) The CAGS eliminator is faulty.
(3) The wiring going to or inside the harness got damaged.

This code will not set due to installing a CAGS eliminator while the battery is connected. The code will only set after two consecutive startups where a failure (resistance other than that expected) is seen above about 25 MPH, with the car already warmed up, etc.

If the proper installation was performed without any complications, it's probably a bad CAGS eliminator.

Mike

Inside the connecter is a plastic "web" that must be removed and we actually drill out the plastic web in the ones we make. If it is not ours check inside the connecter, and if the web is still there just take a needle nose pliers, and remove it.

If it is ours, please just let us know and we will replace it.

The ECM continuously checks the continuity of the CAGs solenoid circuit. If the circuit is open, it sets a fault. (2.2K ohms usually fools the ecm, I went through this on my wife's T/A)
This sounds like a bad connection to me. Try plugging your cags eliminator in again.

I started the thread that has been referred to about a month ago. I found that the rubber material that was used to seal the end of the eliminator had melted as it was apparently too close to the exhaust. This apparently led to the failure of the resistor. The vendor replaced it without any problem and this took care of the problem. I would bet that your unit has a bad resistor. You could find this out quickly by simply removing the CAGS eliminator and plugging the factory harness back into the tranny. If you throw no new codes you have found the culprit.
