How often do coils go bad?

How often do coils go bad?
I was riding down the road today and the car just started running terrible. I took it to the shop and got 3 codes, including over 1000 misfires on Cylinders #1 and #3, and an oxygen sensor code for that side of the engine. I'm assuming that those two coils just took a crap, but I only have 55xxx on my 98. Are these coils an issue??

Coils don't go bad very often. I would look at the plugs and wires. Oxygen sensors do go bad a bit more often.

I'm just posting this in case it might be anyhelp to anyone else...the scanner said that #1 and #3 were misfiring. It turned out to be a blown fuse for that bank of injectors...I believe it was #22 in the fuse panel underneath the hood by the battery. If it should blow again, it probably is #3 injector shorting out
