Hi
I am about to buy a 2000 vette with 53K miles loaded. Any Mechanical problems to look for on that year. Should I have it taken to a shop before buying it. I drove it, but not very long, it is sweet and drive great. I can probably get it for 24K (he wants 27,500) but has been for sale a while. He will take 25, I know that. Any one with a 2000 know of mec problems that can happen? a/c, engine, ANYTHING? Pete you out there, I just sold my 85. I am afraid of something mechanical going wrong with the 2000. Should I get an after market warrenty? Please guys, you have help me in the past....Any feedback so I can decide. Do not want to have any issues after paying 25K (or 24K) it. She is a BEAUTY but I am not mech smart!
Thx CF again
My wife and I have a 2000 6 speed convertible that we
purchased 2 1/2 years ago and love it .
We have 44,000 miles on it and have not had any problems.
The only thing mechanical that I did to the car was I installed the column lock bypass.
The most fun car we have ever owned.
Buy it and enjoy it.
Are all the 200 convetable tops manual? I thought they were a push of a button but the one I looked at was fold back manual. Any one?
All convertible C5 corvettes (1997-2004) have convertible tops that manually fold up and down. Chevy didn't start offering a power convertible top until the C6 model (2006 and on).
We have a 2000 Vert with 96k miles on it. It's been great. No problems aside from the ones all C5's are prone to. If it's been maintained well you'll have no problems.
From: the GOCC are everywhere, even back from "band camp"
I have a 2000 and have had no major issues with it. Okay, there was that rock through the oil pan, but that was not a common defect! If the car checks out I'd go for it, that seems really reasonable. Warranty is up to you, that's a whole 'nuther thread. Good luck.

OK -- 2000 convertible; problems I've personally had:
1. Excess oil consumption (800 miles to the quart).
2. Fuel sensors (replaced three times).
3. Harmonic balancer (replaced once).
4. Directional signals (hazard switch replaced).
5. Bouncing headlight (headlight motor replaced).
6. F45 shocks (leaking fronts replaced at 33k).
7. Rear differential seal (replaced twice).
8. Oil pressure sensor (replaced).
9. Various AIR check valves (rusted and replaced).
10. Belts (replaced with harmonic balancer).
11. Seat bolster (the driver's side issue).
12. Squeeking/inop seatbelt retractor.
13. Column lock actuator and motor.
14. Two new key fobs.
15. BCM replaced.
Yeah, I think that's about it, other than normal maintenance.
Good luck.
Wow sounds like you had some problems. That stinks. Everyone I have spoke to says what great cars and now ya got me thinking. Did you spend alot of money for all the problems? Was it worth it in th elong run?
All items with the exception of the key fobs were either replaced under the original warranty, or a GMPP with a $200 deductible.
Check the TSB record for the car (www.alldata.com) and you will see quite a number of those listed. The others you can find here on the forum. None were "non-standard" items.
