Default Changing brake pads...couple of ?

Aloha gents,

I'm just about ready to change my pads but have a couple of quick questions... Apologize for my ignorance in this subject area :o

I was looking at the Acdelco "instructions" and they mention areas on the brake pad requiring brake lubricant... Is that really required??? I've changed pads in the past (not on a Vette though) and don't remember adding any lube.

Also...

The rear set of pads comes with two thin, adhesive backed pieces shaped like the pad itself... What are they for exactly? I didn't see them mentioned on the instruction sheet.

Guess I should mention I’m using Acdelco ceramic pad sets 17D731CH & 17D732CH.

TIA & Mahalo!!!

Mark

the lubricant helps to eliminate brake squeal.
The shims help ensure eliminations of pulsations.
I would use both.

I use the AC Delco ceramic pads and the adhesive pieces are junk.
I put them on mine and they just wrinkled up due to heat and were
a pain in the butt to remove with out removing the calipers. I did not
use the lube and had no problems. I really like the pads since they
stop fine and help keep the rims cleaner.
