Help with Dual Zone Climate Control and other electrical issues
I have a 1999 Coupe with only 18,000 miles on the beast. Recently my dual zone climate control system stopped allowing me to adjust the temperature in any way. It defaults to about 70 degrees and that is about it. Is it likely that the control unit mounted in the dash will need to be replaced? I recently cleaned the underhood chassis grounds and splice packs as well as the one located on the passenger side pillar, but this made no difference. Additionally, and ever since I purchased the vehicle I have noticed that the daytime running light/high beam indicator in the dash dims erratically then get supper bright. Occasionally the headlights will dim as well when this occurs. I have discussed this early on during my warranty period but the dealership had no idea of what was going on. Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated. I do have the complete GM service manual set but must confess that I do not consider myself an automotive technical guru.
Thanks for any input the Vette Community might have.
You can expect some dimming/brightening of the lights when the electrical load changes. Have you run the On Board Diagnostics to see if you have any codes, especially ones starting with B?
Bill, I have run the diagnostics on many occasions because I have have the P0410 code (air pump issues) many times. The dealer replaced the air pump and selonoid a couple of times, but after awhile, the code came back. The resolution to this is that for some reason I keep "blowing" the micro relay for the air pump. Once replaced, the air pump works fine. This I have checked by undoing the hoses that lead to the check valves and there is plenty of air blowing through once the relay is replaced. I then clear the codes and everything is fine for about a year. I have had numerous loss of serial communications codes, but to no noticeable detriment to the vehicle that I am aware of. The dimming of the daytime/high beam indicator lamp doesn't seem to be a big concern, but I wondered if this might be related to the loss of my ability to change the temp settings on the AC/heater control unit. The control module will not modulate the temp settings to anything other than 70 degrees.
Thanks for your response as I really appreciate any input that anyone has.
