Default Exhaust Cutouts

About a month ago I picked up an 01 C5, M6. It already has a few boltons on it, including the Corsa Touring catback and Corsa X-pipe.

I used to have a 93 Z28 with headers and dumps before the axle(no mufflers), so the Corsa touring is waaaaaaaayy too quiet for me.

I'm very interested in picking up the dual stainless QTP electric cutouts for the car from Thunder Racing for about $400, plus install. I don't really want to tear up the Corsa X-pipe or catback.

Where should I mount these cutouts, and whats the best way to route/place the dual electric switches I'll need?

I love the fact that I can go from loud as hell to whisper quiet with the flip of a switch, and for 1/2 the price of any other catback out there.

Suggestions? Does anyone have any input on sound quality/loudness?

a friend of mine put cutouts in his corsa's, i say go for it. At least with the cutouts in the back, all of the noise and fumes are exiting out the rear instead of under the car.

I also have cutouts in my stock c5mufflers. PM me your email if you would like to see a pic.

I just dont like the idea of anything hanging down under the car, which is about the only option in my mind besides putting them just in the bend before the muffler.

I too think the best place for cutout is in the back, but with my factory Ti cat back there was just no room. So I installed them here in the back of the X-pipe.

Default cutouts

Thanks for the pics. How did you get those to look so clean. I can't even tell where the cutouts are welded in.

How is the noise level, say compared to an XR-1 catback or the B&B bullets? I'm new to C5s, but know a lot about LT1/LS1 F-bodys. The Borla XR-1 and the B&B bullets are the loudest catbacks out there right?

And where did you mount the switches?

I was thinking of mounting them right at the front of the X-pipe. I need to get under the car and take a look at some things.

Thanks!

These are welded in the back of a stainless steel LG x-pipe. All the welding was done inside the pipe for a clean look. All the material is stainless steel. I could not find stainless steel flanges so I milled my own. Nothing you see there is painted or plated, it is all bare bead blasted stainless steel.

I can tell you there is no room under a C5 for standard cutouts forward of this point. There is just not much room left over under these cars. I have seen where someone went to single exhaust and installed a single cutout in the tunnel but that kind of defeats the purpose.

I can tell you it is loud with them open! I can't compare because I have just not heard many different C5 custom exhausts in person. Here is an audio clip of these in the garage idling about 10% open.

I think the loudest C5 cat back is the Loud Mouths, which is pretty much straight pipes.

Mine are in the same location as SpeedyZ and others I've seen. My QTPs have worked good but I did burn out 1 motor after a year and they replaced it for $30.

Nice and loud and deep? The sound really echoes and is deep when it bounces off the pavement under the car.

Listened to the clip. My god! That sounds like a top fuel dragster! What kinda cam is that?

So you made those turn down's yourself? How much did the setup cost you with the power plates?
