I can't seem to get my coolant cap off. It won't turn. I tried taking one of the hoses off and there was a kind of sucking noise for a moment like there was air being let IN to the reservoir, but I still cannot get the lid off. I have NEVER heard of this problem. What is going on?
Eat 4 bowls of Wheaties ... then give it another try :D:D.
Actually, that IS strange. I took mine off the other day when the coolant system was stone cold and the cap came off easily. You are doing it when cold, right? It just must be on super tight. You are tuning it CCW? Stupid, obvious questions, but never know :D.
Occasionally, the gasket will stick to the top of the tank. It sounds like your cap vent is sticking a little and may be holding some vacuum. That would stick the the rubber gasket underneath to the filler neck. Try warming the engine up just a little. (not full hot) and it will probably come off.
If I were you, I'd replace the cap once I got it off.
Hey Doug, that arthritis thing can sneak up on you in a hurry.  I'm good at opening pickle jars, bring her by, I'll twist her off for ya. :jester
Okay I KNEW I would get a ribbing. Thanks for coming through for me. I'll let you know how it goes. Car was cold when I tried it. Seems like the system was under a vacuum almost.
Okay I took a little nap to get my strength up this afternoon. Then went out and ran the car for a little while. And it came right off. Felt pretty goofy. I think someone mentioned that it may just have been really screwed on tight and the gasket material had gotten caught. I think that's what it was.
Since it is obvious you cannot handle the technical aspect of your Vet, I think you should send it to me in Tulsa. I will pay shipping. :D :D :D :D :D By the way, I love that car.
FWIW the coolant cap on my C4 is a bit tricky. You have to press down hard, but not too hard, while turning it to the right and left simultaneously. Or something like that.
Re: Okay, please don't laugh but.... (Mag Red Monster)
Let me lend some techinical dimensions to the problemo. What we technicians call this in the field is the old "Coolant Ceaserous Rigimortus". Better know as CCR....not to be confused with "Credance Clearwater Revival". Its a rare malfunction of the thermal law of dynamics that occurs to vette owners that have a laten desire to tinker around with every nut and bolt on that machine. They have delusions of grandure that lead to an obcessive type of behaivor. Best known cure is to ship car to sweet home Alabama in care of Duke. He will make it a part of his Dukedom and the coolant cap will never cause a problemo. :jester :troll
