My project is three weeks from being done. Now I am down to the trans. I recently spent $5,000.00 from Speed Demon here in Houston. (Before they went out of business.) My 4L65E is supposed to be bullet proof. And I'm sure it will be ok. My concern is that it may go out with my new set-up. High hp, nitrous stroker motor. I want an auto, so I'm calling all of you high HP auto C5 guys. And when I say high HP, I mean 700+. What trans are you running. 4L65E, TH350, TH400.......? And, more important than that, who built your trans? I don't drive that car everyday, but I do like driving to the car shows. I like road racing as well, so I thought that might eliminated the TH trans.... What do you guys think. I have spoken to Dave at Rock-On, and John Goable at Goable Racing Trans. Both of these guys seem pretty competent.
Talk to rodney at rpm. I have one of his trans. There the best. My car went 10.7 @127 first time out on motor. Should go mid to low 10's on motor. And i'm in the process of putting a direct 300 shot on it now. Rodneys trans are good for deep 9's.
Send a PM to Nick Yoskin. He's currently on his 4th or 5th auto and from what he tells me, this one seems to be bulletproof. He can give you the details. His car is a 9 second twin turbo running over 800 rwhp.
The stock trany's main weekness is the input shaft! If you manage to get that upgraded to a hardened one you should be good.
I spoke with Carl from Rossler, and I have spoken with a couple of other shops, they all offer a hardened "OUTPUT" shaft. No one has mentioned a weak "INPUT" shaft.
