I believe there have been posts where people have done this. I have no idea whether it works or if it causes problems. Maybe someone else can point you toward an earlier thread.

the Z06's don't have the 'closeout panels', just the screen up front; Englandgreen cut the stockers on the top panel to get some more air

I cut mine out. Removed the inside half of them to allow more air for my FMIC

Default holes???

I did the cutouts ( 3 on each side 1-1/4" holesaw) along with the ziptie mod on my 97. I noticed a big difference in SOTP performance. Sounds better too. Chuck.

Default holes

I made a thin cardboard templet and drilled four 1 1/4" holes in each side. It increases the cold air flow to the filter area. Can't comment on looks as the area is covered with SS screens.

The only way to find if this works is to run a scan of the IAT at idle and under load (driving), do the mod and then rescan under similar air density. Since the engine bay is filled with engine heat a small opening like that should have little difference. If you look at the Z06 intake, the gained 4 hp by opening up the intake and removing the screen. Wihout changing the intake, nothing will probably happen. It is the cooler air that make the hp.

i have seen a pic of the three holes mod.....seemed okay looking to me...i was thinking about doing it...but i think enough air comes around under fenders to make air...as you are driving cool air is coming in on every crack and crevis...i dont think it will help w/any hp

I did this for added cooling and for looks. I think it goes well with my cross-drilled rotors.

I cut out all of the vertical wall from the fog light to the end on both sides 1 1/2 yrs ago. Did it when I had halltech intake, now have A&A s/c and no issues what so ever. did it make a difference, i don't know because I did not take measurements before, but today, everything runs fine. temps, IAT's, A/F,etc. I also have meth inject, so this can help out some areas.
i did it thinking it would help cooling and more air to intake.

MidAmerica sells a "Front Screen Airflow Package" (a little pricey at $140) which consists of slotted closeout panels and Z06 style screens, their number 606-950.
