MD.

The shifter most likely needs to be adjusted. And its not really the shifter but rather the shifter "box" that sits on the torque tube that you adjust. If you look at the shifter "box" there are two torqux screws, you loosen them and then you can move the "box" back and forth. Move the box so that the shifter is in the most up-right position and that should take care of it. This is the most common thing I have found with "poping out of gear" issues.

Sounds like you know what you are doing, but remember some of our brethren have never looked at this mechanism ever before.

The pin in the diagram that has the down arrow, is the one that locks the shifter in the "most upright position" for you (in other words it locks the shifter in true neutral) that takes the subjectivity out of it. After that you can loosen the bolts that hold the box and the bolt that holds the shift shaft for the alignment.

Nothing wrong with your post, just trying to make it more clear for the beginners....

You are welcome. Good that someone can benefit from my experince.

Check out the diagram put on the previous post. That pin that has the down arrow goes into a hole on the shift shaft when you press it down.
You have to wiggle the shifter a bit to get the pin to fall into the hole, but once it does that, you are "officially" in true neutral. That pin is the one I suggested you could try substituting with a small allan wrench of the same diameter for aftermarket shifters. After that adjust as directed.

Thanks guys. what would we do without the internet.
A few years ago I built a pretty hot Lotus motor for a Jensen Healey with the help of an internet-penpal (who lives in England). He is very knowledgeable about Lotus engines, and has friends that work there. So, I was able to glean great info, just as we do in this forum, from experts around the world. Awsome!
