To the owners of c5's with Kooks Headers: What do you think about your system? Quality? Sound? HP Gain? Any problems with leaks? Would you do it again or purchase another brand this time around? Thanks for your input!!!
I've had these on my 2004 Cpe since new. I had them professionally installed by CARTEK of NJ. They specialize in vettes. They installed the Kooks, GHL's, X-pipe, cats, 168 stat, air bridge, MAS, and Calloway honker at the same time. Great power gain 40-50 hp. I dyno-tuned as well. The fit is excellent. They do protrude slightly from the botton tunnel, but I have had no clearence issues. They along with the GHL's sound great. Deep rumble at idle and roar at WOT. Very satisfied with purchase. Have them professioanlly installed as I hear some people have problems.
I have had mine for several months..No problems, not even one code. I agree with the last post, if you have the money, have them professionally installed.
If I did it again, I would maybe consider the LG's, as they claim more HP and they are not too much more $, imo
I would say Kooks are the best header on the market aside from the LGs. I ran kooks for about 2 years before upgrading to LGS for that additional mid-range Torque that you don't get with the Kooks.
The Kook's had a great sound to them, and are fairly light weight.
I had Kooks on my 97- along with high flow cats and 3" x-pipe...I had them installed by my local speed shop- I think they had to jack the engine up on each side to get them in...I loved them- they sounded great connected to my Z06 Ti catback.
I did see a thread about the AIR tube snapping off recently- though I never did have an issue with mine.
A few of us have had the air tubes blow off, but mine was from very very hard use (4/5 HPDE's a year). However this has happened to every header brand due to the location of the tubes and how much exhaust pressure is beating on it over and over.
They're great quality and I have no problems w/ any plug wires being close to the header primaries, I don't need to run wire boots to protect them even w/ the HPDE use.
I also like they they use a flange connection from the header to the min-pipe.
On mine the weld didn't fail, the metal around it burst off. I'm going to have them repaird and ceramic coated.
They have a very distinct and almost exotic sound to them.
