Problem - A4 (99) Starting to Wind/Hum
I have a 1999 C5 w/80,000 miles. I am the 2nd owner (bought at 74,000 miles). Had the fluid replaced at 75,000 miles and the transmission shop owner told me that the fluid had a mild burnt smell and that it probably had never been changed. On normal acceleration, in 3rd and 4th gears, I can barely hear a low winding sound that mimics acceleration and remains constant at constant speeds. Do you think it is a transmission or differential sound? (BTW - The transmission shop, who has performed work for me before, not a Corvette, quoted a price of $3500 for an installed replacement tranmission). I am located in Northern California. Your thoughts?
