RATTLING DOOR PANEL
Chevrolet uses bare styrofoam as the backing for the door panel. While, quality fastners are used to hold the door panel in place, they do allow vibration. This translates into the buzzing and squeaking sounds reported.
Any material that will prevent contact of the styrofoam and the fiberglass inner door will nearly eliminate this problem.
First remove the door panel. Next observe the bare areas of styrofoam. Using 1/4" thick foam and 3M #77 Adhesive (Home Depot) I affixed the foam to bare styrofoam. The type of foam I am speaking of is actually the same foam used as a backing for the grey carpet inside the trunk compartments. Alternatively, Felt, Terry Cloth Toweling, etc. may be used and will eliminate the problem.
Chevrolet has issued a TSB #01-08-64-009 that covers this problem. It involves removal of the door panel, and replacement and padding of several items.
If your car is still covered under the new car warranty, your dealer should have the information.
I am with you on the rattle from the Bass. Drives me crazy.
1 - Yes the styrofoam. C5 tech recommended covering it in felt. (About $20 in material. I used a wash towel form to match the conture of the Stryo with double sided thim carpet tape.
2 - The belt moulding black rubber seal on the outside of the upper door also rattles. I used double sided tape to stick in firm.
3 - The Bose Tweeter housing. Take in apart and place foam in strategic places around the amp behind the Tweeter.
4 - Also look at the lock rods for the noise. Factory manuel shows to ad a tie wrap on them.
5 - Tighten all the bolts and screws...duh..
All the above have taken away rattles. BUT...I still have one and I have been unable to isolate it. I have had the door apart two or so times trying to find it.
Any other tricks are welcome. Is there a TSB on this? Maybe I am missing something obvious.
Thanks all,
Kenny
They were nice enough to remove it under warranty
