I just bought a 2000 vert. Previous owner had replaced the Delco Bose audio system with a cheap aftermarket system. I want to return to the OEM system, but I'm not sure that I have everything I need. I have the head unit with cassette player, the 12 CD changer, the door speakers with amps and the rear speakers. Do the rear speakers run off the door amps or do I need another amp or amps for them? Anything else?
No offense, but don't go back to the bose OEM system. Do yourself a favor and buy a good aftermarket system. Check out the audio/electronics under general forums on this website. If you really want to go back, you don't need another amp for rear speakers, but having all the wiring with the correct connectors to go into head and CD unit makes it much easier. don't do it, don't do it, don't do it.

If you have mind set on installing "Bose" back in the rear speakers are not amplified only the sub-woofers in the front doors.
The BOSE speakers are cheap and made of paper instead of poly.
Like the others before me said you would be better off with an after market system. I don't know if you are into digital music (MP3's) but many of the after-market systems can play a CD full of these (about 120 songs) per CD.
The biggest beef I've had with this system is radio. It seems that the antenna does not provide good reception, thus a poor sound. When you are playing CD's the sound quality is much better. Still, without a sub you leave a little pop on the table, vs an aftermarket system.

My C5 with the bose system has the BEST sounding FM radio and the WORST sounding AM radio I've ever owned in a car. CD and Cassette are OK Take ur pick.
I agree with you about being a purest. Put it back orginial.
The Bose system is fine with me. It is a small compartment and the sound is good as far as I am concerned. I never did like nor do I now like that thumping bass rattling everything in the car. That is just noise not good music sounds.
My wife and I travel in the vette so we use the CD alot. We take a selection of different types of music and we neither one complain about the Bose sound system.
I will get flamed for this view, but such is life.
Besides the head unit, there is also some kind of bose signal processor under the dash. It may still be there or maybe it was removed. You need that component to restore the bose system. I have the bose system in my car and consider it quite good on CD's. I never use the AM or FM radio for music.

you have a sub in each door.
all I did was change the front 3 1/2" speakers to a good quality coaxial and change the rear speakers to Infinity 505cs component speakers.
I also removed the 12 disk changer and installed Sirius satellite radio, so I don't listen to am/fm or CD's anymore.

Aaah........There couldn't be anything cheaper than the Bose system. Thet are just junk, plain and simple!
I used to say the same thing, "Pay for radio" ? I have had Sirius for two years now and would never go back, the selection is great. If you go this route do the direct input into the radio instead of the FM modulation, it is so much better.

Same here, except on the XM side. never understimate the power that lack of commercials brings you.
Long trips it's nice. But short trips I think it's better. I work 2 miles away by odometer. With FM if I catch it just wrong, I wind up hearing naught but commercials the whole trip. With XM, it's always music.

Am is terrible and static when I put windows up or down.
I have to agree with the purists, im 22 have a 04 blk Z06 and i think the stock bose is fine, my buddy who works at a local audio shop who's into all the aftermarket decks and speakers says the factory bose really isn't that bad. plus i don't want anymore weight added to my already heavy 3100 pound car.
