Default $80.00 oil Change!?

I took my dads C5 in yesterday and had them do an oil change and it ended up running HIM 80 bones! I'm used to 30 dollar jiffy lube deals with my sorry truck(04 Supercrew). I went to Kelly Chevrolete on Useless 1. Service was superb BTW.

Price sounds about right from a dealer.

Stealerships always charge more. But I'll also bet that your jiffy lube deal is for regular oil, not Mobile One synthetic. Do the vette myself but still more expensive than taking the wife's car to a quick lube place.

Default Thats why....

They call it a stealership.... But if you have the money I guess it relieves stress... I do most of my own oil changes or take it too a mom and pop place that I trust... I bring them the oil and filter....Mobile one... They usually just charge me around 20 bucks..... I don't get dirty and they ditch the oil for me.....

I take the company cars to the lexus dealership.... Those yokels schedule an appointment for an oil change and by the time they get done with thier scheduled maintance they rope you in I've seen it as high as $1,200 dollars.... Talk about a racket and a half.... Thats probably why all the cars I own say chevrolet......

Yep---that's probably "normal" for a dealer to charge.

Also most cars take 4 to 5 qt that go to the jiffy lube places, the Vette takes 6.5-7 qt. So that adds to the cost as well, especially at a dealer who is probably charging retail for each qt.

I changed mine last night. Advance Auto Parts had Mobil 1 5w - 30 on sale for $4.77 Qt. K&N 1007 Filter for $11.00

7 x4.77- 33.39
1 x 11.00 11.00
$44.39

Just have a hard time taking it to a dealership for those dollars.

I buy the oil and filter myself and take it to my dealer. They charge me $11 to change it and I don't have to mess with disposing of the oil.

So let me get this right..

44.39x 7.75% (NV Tax) tax = 47.83

If you pay some local "Mom and Pop shop" between 15-20 bucks (Usually around 15.00)

This equals 47.83+17.50avg= 65.33

You are willing to go through all of this AND take it to some shop that is NOT a licensed GM service facility all over 15.00 bucks????

You've got to be kidding me. Half of you guys spend more than that on steering wheel stickers and throttle body bypass kits..

I can understand if you service the car yourself. Cause at least you are getting the satisfaction of working on your car AND saving 30-40 bucks.

But for the guys who take it to a different shop in order to save 10-15 bucks is

You have obviously NEVER had to get one of the "Mom and Pop shops" to pay for something they damaged.. Because I can tell you this...You think its hard to get a dealership to step up, wait and see what its like to get "Jethro" to pay for a new motor when he forgets to tighten the drain plug all the way..

My dealership of choice charges me $11.99 in labor when I bring in the MOBIL 1 oil and filter. Plus, I read their magazines, eat their donuts and drink their fresh coffee. It's a good deal until my shop is completed and I have a lift of my own again.

Jiffy Lube? I wouldnt take a tricycle in to those type of places to have a streamer put on the handlegrip because they wouldnt have a clue how to even do that the right way.

There mottos are: bring it back in 3 months for an oil change because we wont tighten the drain bolt and you will need oil by then.

I've been taking mine to Jiify every 3-4K miles for 2.5 years. The guys treat me like a king. They let me go in the pit to watch. They give me the extra 1/2 quart as it takes 6.5 for the fill. They have never let a drop hit the manifold, nor has a drop ever leaked out.

Cost is $63

But I don't let them clean the windows or put air in the tires....

Why is the vette LS1 supposed to require Mobil 1 when the Camaro LS1 does not?

Default Walmart

OK go ahead and flame me I said Walmart.
6.5 quarts of Mobil 1 filter and a half quart to take home.

Was about $46 but they are now making me get their "premium" service when you get Mobil 1, like I'm not paying enough already! about $52 now of course they also top off my washer fluid.

Same older guy has been doing my car since new and we always chat a while. Always seems impressed as he has been watching it quickly climb to over 99,000 miles.
