Default Jacking problems...HELP!!!!

OK,

This is getting ridiculous. I can fix practically anything around the house, consider myself VERY mechanically inclined, and can't jack the damn car up.
Here's what I did:

Rolled the front of the car on Rhino's.
Slid the 2ton jack from Walmart under the nose to the jackpoint.
Put a block of wood between the jack and the car (no puck),
and started lifting (again, from the front of the car, not the side.
Problem is the rod on the lift is not doing much since I don't have
much room to lift the rod due to the fact that it hits the underside
of the car.

Is it me? Do I need to buy a "REAL" jack? WTF. I feel like a total
moron at this point.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Aceman :mad

I've experienced the same thing. I just stick in a small bit of the rod in the arm or jack it up by hand - it's very possible with the jack I have. Good Luck

I thought about just putting a screwdriver in it but, not for nothing,
I don't want to be under it while I'm jacking. Thanks for the input -
that may be my last ditch effort next to buying another one.

Aceman, know your problem, all these cheap jacks are just too short. I remember the the good jacks in the shops were about four feet long and got the jacking rod out from under the car so you could pump it. I did a little mod to mine that helped. Put the jacking rod in the jack and move it down th its lowest position. If the handle is 6 or 8 inches off the floor, then you need to go to the jack end of the rod and bend the rod slightly so the handle end of the rod touches the floor when its in the lowest position. That way you get some lift out of the pump when you lift the rod up to the bottom of the car. You'll need to use a torch to do this, but it will make the jack a lot more useable. Will look like this:

If you rolled up on Rhinos and still don't have enough clearance to jack, I'd take that jack back and get a better one. A good jack will have a relatively high gear ratio and a very short movement of the handle should get lots of lift.

Buy a good jack! Its is safer, lifts more, lifts higher, has bigger lifting pad. Much more stable with a load on it. A good jack does not cost all that much more!
